Why B2B still breaks WooCommerce and Shopify

Monolithic WooCommerce and Shopify are built around a retail checkout. B2B quoting, negotiated pricing and high-variance quantities sit outside that model. Teams usually reach for extra plugins, B2B apps, or a wholesale channel that still wants a price on the product.

When that runs out, the next recommendation is often BigCommerce. It markets B2B more loudly - and it charges for the privilege. You still inherit a monolithic storefront, still pay a premium for quoting and customer groups, and still hit limits when the sales process is ‘build a spec, then price it’.

HeadKit’s point of difference is the opposite: keep the commerce backend you already run (WooCommerce, in Paralel’s case), put a Next.js storefront in front, and shape the conversion path to the business. Quotes are a platform feature on HeadKit, not a six-figure custom module.

Performance you can measure

Headless only helps if the storefront is fast. We measured the Paralel HeadKit storefront in the lab on 3 August 2026, after the caching and Core Web Vitals pass.

Cached TTFB on the shop catalogue dropped from 455ms to 33–53ms - about ten times faster. Warm collection and product pages sit in a 32–50ms edge band.

Desktop Lighthouse (unthrottled) on the same storefront:

• Shop catalogue: 89
• Brand and collection listings: 87–88, CLS ~0

Those sit in Google’s “good” Core Web Vitals band. The same Next.js storefront, Vercel edge cache and HeadKit Engine that ship out of the box are what Paralel is running.
